POP-UP FESTIVALS
Located in strategic sites around Tampa Bay, our Pop-Up Festivals bring awareness about the potential in specific urban conditions when design is applied to them. Local artists and designers collaborate to dream up and built installations for the year’s chosen site and theme. Some of our past proposals are:
2014 DESIGN FRANKLIN STREET POP-UP
Designers worked in collaborative cross‐disciplinary teams to design and construct installations around the theme "the Power of Design", transforming Franklin Street into a showcase of local art and design.
2015 MADE IN THE SHADE: A MOVING POP-UP DESIGN FESTIVAL
This year, our theme was ‘Mobility & Connectivity.’ Our teams of designers explored what great design brings to our community and through their proposals, promoted a unique experience along the new Selmon Greenway. Our goal was to promote great design and inspire the public to participate and engage in the making of their environment.
2016 WELL DESIGNED PARKLETS POP-UP
Designers worked in collaborative cross‐disciplinary teams to design and construct Parklet installations implementing the principals of “Well Design”. Parklets are mini-parks that take back the space normally used to park one car, for enjoyment by the public. Installations were displayed in a one-day Pop-Up Festival in the Channelside District. The goal was to generate public discussion about the importance of public space and how design can improve the quality of the urban realm.
2018 NO VACANCY POP-UP FESTIVAL, YBOR CITY
Our fourth annual Pop-Up family-festival featured installations dreamed up and built by teams of local designers, artists, engineers, and contractors. The installations transformed spaces in Ybor City's historic district - alleyway, storefronts and sidewalks and demonstrated their true potential. Architecture firms, museums and restaurants also open their doors to the public.
